When the San Miguel Beermen are in a zone, the team is just plain hard to beat.
Despite missing team captain and former PBA MVP Arwind Santos on Friday, the team blasted the GlobalPort Batang Pier in 120-109 victory.
They finished with 19 three-pointers, the second-highest mark in franchise history, in a scintillating performance from the perimeter.
Import Tyler Wilkerson had an explosive performance with 52 points, including seven three-pointers while Marcio Lassiter, who had 28 points, knocked down eight triples as SMB shot 53-percent from beyond the arc.
With the Beermen’s gunners firing away outside, reigning back-to-back MVP June Mar Fajardo – who tallied 15 points and five rebounds in the game – has had the opportunity to take a step back in terms of workload, something that could pay off for them down the line.
“Magaling yung import namin. Napapagaan yung game ko, yung minutes ko napapababa,” Fajardo said.
Santos, who sat out the game due to a hamstring injury, was not surprised the team won despite being short-handed, something they were able to do in the Philippine Cup finals.
“Hindi na bago sa amin yun eh. Kahit wala ako o si June Mar. Yung team namin, Marvel, maraming heroes. Mahirap talunin. Lalo na yung import namin nakukuha na niya yung sistema ng San Miguel kaya mas napapaganda,” added Santos.
