The San Miguel Beermen may have taken the first step towards the rare Grand Slam but head coach Leo Austria isn’t thinking about that difficult feat just yet.
“If you win the All-Filipino, you’re the only team that has a chance to win the Grand Slam. But what we want to do is to plan for our second conference,” Austria told InterAksyon.com. “One game at a time. When we get (closer) there, that’s the time we have to plan.”
Austria’s Beermen have become the most dominant team in the PBA today. Last season, they won two of three possible championships, which prompted San Miguel Corporation president Ramon Ang to set the bar even higher for the team, urging them to try for the elusive triple crown.
They’re off to a great start after clinching the Philippine Cup in historic fashion, becoming the first PBA team to come back from a 0-3 deficit to win a playoff series.
But unlike last season, where they likewise ruled the first conference but came out flat for the second conference, San Miguel is making sure they are prepared for the Commissioner’s Cup as well.
