JUNE Mar Fajardo is not looking to get into a battle of the boards with Scottie Thompson, he is urging the Beermen to gang up on the rebounding demon.
The big man from Cebu is eager to bounce back from a 10-point and seven-rebound outing and help the Beermen back on top of the series.
“Kailangan talaga namin mag gang rebound at bantayan si Scottie para hindi sya maka-rebound,” said Fajardo after the Beermen’s practice at the Acropolis Gym on Tuesday.
“Alam nating medyo sneaky siya sa pag rebound. Sana ma-box out siya namin siya at makapag-gang rebound kami lagi.”
With Fajardo saddled by foul trouble, Thompson had a career-best 18 rebounds as Ginebra outlasted San Miguel to level the series.
Thompson also had 18 points and dished out eight assists, and Fajardo is eager to limit the 6-foot-1 guard in Game Three of the Philippine Cup finals on Wednesday at the Araneta Coliseum.
Chris Ross agreed but was quick to point out the other aspects the Beermen need to work on.
“That’s what he does, that’s what he brings to the table. We have to find a way to limit other things that he doesn’t do so well,” said Ross of Thompson.
“He can get all he wants as long as we win. He can get a 30-30-30 game as long as we win. I don’t care about stats.”
