San Miguel issues a statement in the Commissioner’s Cup as the Beermen beat the previously perfect Meralco Bolts in their first game back from the All-Filipino.
The San Miguel Beermen had their work cut out for them to start the 2017 PBA Commissioner’s Cup, facing the league’s hottest team for their first game.
The reigning three-time Philippine Cup champs didn’t miss a beat from their latest title run, beating the previously undefeated Meralco Bolts, 99-92, Sunday at the Big Dome.
San Miguel thus made the biggest entrance possible by ending Meralco’s perfect 4-0 start to win its first game of the new conference.
Down by as much as 15 points in the first half, the Beermen went to work starting in the third, tying the game at 64-all before pounding the Bolts into submission by the time the fourth period went by.
Behind an overwhelming show of offensive might, San Miguel even took a 12-point lead, 95-83, befpore cruising for the victory.
“I never thought na we will be playing like this. Especially at the start dahil I’m expecting na mag-struggle kami dito sa simula. it’s very obvious na everybody was so rusty,” head coach Leo Austria said.
